Paula is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and provides culturally sensitive therapy in both Spanish and English. She graduated from Colorado Christian University with her Masters in Clinical Mental Health counseling degree and obtained her B.A in Psychology from Concordia College. Paula has more than eight years working with individuals with various mental illnesses in different capacities. Paula works well with individuals of all ages and genders, but she most enjoys working with (ages 5-21). She is currently providing counseling services in Lake Country Associates under the supervision of Da’Nel Chase, MS, LPCC, RPT. And is open for both in person and telehealth counseling sessions.
“Start where you are” is the guiding principle Paula has instilled in both her counseling practice and throughout her life. Paula’s goal is to meet her clients in their present moment experience, incorporating compassion and gentleness during her session. Paula believes that deciding to enter therapy is often the bravest journey one can embark on. Paula will often tailor her work as a therapist to fit each client’s unique needs. She has more than seven years working with individuals with Autism Spectrum and is trained in Applied Behavior Analysis techniques to facilitate behavior modification; she can also integrate Christian and Bible-based principles into her counseling when appropriate and preferred. She is most drawn to using Person-Centered he is also trained in Play therapy modalities and follows in Internal Family Systems framework. She believes in the notion that, given the right conditions, all people are capable of being loving, creative, and knowledgeable.
When not at school or in sessions with clients, you will most likely find Paula outside enjoying the day. She is an avid reader and adventure seeker. When the sun is out, she is outside camping, kayaking, swimming, biking, and hiking with her baby, her dog, and her husband. When the weather turns cold, you will most likely find her re-watching the Harry Potter Series, reading all kinds of books, painting or drawing, and trying to cook, and often not succeeding.
