Cynthia Rollo-Carlson, LICSW, uses a person-centered approach that has the understanding that the client is the expert of their life. She approaches therapy with a collaborative and holistic mindset. From there she helps the individual to explore problems that are showing up and solutions that may be most helpful. Cognitive Behavioral therapy one of the main approaches that she uses as well as Strength-Based therapy and Narrative therapy.   She also incorporates motivational interviewing to help meets clients where they are at on their journey towards healing and growth. She helps clients to identify a purpose for their life that was lost along their journey.  She has a wealth of experience working with ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, along with grief and trauma. She is a Certified Thanatologist, which is a special certification addressing grief and loss. There are many types of grief and loss, death being primary, but there are also losses that occur when someone goes through a divorce, looses a job, moves, or has an abuse history. She believes that everyone encompasses the inner strength and resiliency that is needed for healing, and she is here as a guide and to help individuals tap into your own resources. She also works with people who are in recovery from substance use but struggling with other areas of their life. She has experience working with Veterans and their families, particularly with those who are experiencing PTSD or MST.  She is very comfortable incorporating a Faith-based approach into the counseling experience.

Cynthia is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and earned her MSW at the Jane Adams College of Social Work and the University of Illinois – Chicago. She earned her Bachelors of Social Work from Southern Illinois University. She also has a Masters of Arts degree in English from Bemidji State University with a focus on poetry and creative writing.  She is also a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and a Certified Thanatologist through the Association for Death Education and Counseling. She also teaches full time for the Social Work online program for the University of Southern California. Prior to that appointment, she taught part time at Bemidji State University for 11 years. She attended New Directions, a psychoanalytic writing institute for 3 years as well.

In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys being in the outdoors. She also likes writing and has several publications. Poetry and creative writing are her passions.
