Children’s Play Therapy
A child’s language is play and toys are the child’s words! Play therapy is a structured approach that uses curative powers inherent in play in many ways. Play helps children express what is troubling them when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts and feelings.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
PCIT is an innovative, evidence-based program housed within Lake Country Associates in Bemidji, MN. The program is designed to help families with children 2 to 7 years old who exhibit behavior problems that are beyond what is considered normal for their developmental age. PCIT can help children with behavior problems, attention problems, and attachment problems. These children are often described as defiant, un-controllable, overactive, attention-seeking, and/or extremely impulsive.
PCIT teaches parents how to improve discipline techniques and at the same time enhance the quality of the parent-child relationship.

Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and complex trauma experiences. It is a structured, short-term treatment model that effectively improves a range of trauma-related outcomes in 8-25 sessions with the child/adolescent and caregiver. Although TF-CBT is highly effective at improving youth posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and diagnosis, a PTSD diagnosis is not required in order to receive this treatment. TF-CBT also effectively addresses improving the participating parent’s or caregiver’s personal distress about the child’s traumatic experience, effective parenting skills, and supportive interactions with the child.
